How Sweet It Is

I was driving in my car this week and the traffic was a little busy - I had my dog in the car and I was taking him to the local doggy park to have a run and play some soccer. The radio was on the and a journalist was interviewing Julia Gillard, our new Prime Minister, about the forthcoming August 21 election. Out of the corner of my eye I saw a lady jogging along the side of the road. She was dressed in tights, an oversized white t-shirt, had a head band on and was looking a bit hot and sweaty. Nothing unusual about that, right? We've all seen people jog before. What really caught my eye, was that this lady was rather overweight. Now, stay with me here. I'm not about to make some smart remark about her.

What made me look at her, and look at her for a few seconds, was the sheer determination on her face. It was obviously an effort for her and all I thought was this - 'good on you girl'. I admired and respected her effort and the look of determination. She was making an effort to jog and to get herself moving. Losing weight is not always easy. Determination is a key motivator in an exercise program to get the weight off.

I wished I had been in a lane closer to this lady so I could put the car window down and yell out 'you go girl, good on you, bravo and keep going, you're doing well!'. Some side line cheering and support goes a long way to helping our fellow citizens to 'keep going'.

That's all for now, see you next time :)
